Rev. Brien Egan CRM, CKRM, CHT has been a teaching and practicing transpersonal
hypnotherapist and mindfulness/meditation teacher for over 15 years and has taught many students (children and
adults) by helping them overcome problems and issues in their lives. In his sessions and classes he teaches people how to
overcome, release, integrate, and transform the negative patterns in their lives to create new positive patterns by using
spiritual ideals and affirmations. He is also a certified special education teacher and also taught children and families
through his summer camps he created to teach quantum physics and spiritual concepts. He is an ordained minister
ordained by the Essene New Life Church and has performed many weddings.
Transpersonal means the crossing of Body, Mind, and Spirit.Transpersonal Hypnotherapy is an orientation toward
hypnotherapy that is shared by an increasing number of holistically oriented practitioners who are ready to take the
concept of holism to the next logical step. Where holism takes body, mind, and spirit into consideration,
transpersonalism goes beyond the individual to consider the deep connections between human beings and our capacity
to transcend the limitations of a three dimensional consciousness. In transpersonal hypnotherapy, there is an emphasis
on the innate spiritual resources within each individual, along with the assumption that the guidance of a higher power
will prevail within the therapeutic relationship.
The philosophical question then becomes are we a human being having a spiritual experience? Or a Spiritual being
having a human experience? A transpersonal hypnotherapist would certainly maintain that we are a spiritual being having
the experience of being human.
Transpersonal Hypnotherapy concludes that we as human beings operate on all three levels: body, mind, and
spirit, with each component being affected by the other. For example: if you exercise the body vigorously you feel better
psychologically and stronger spiritually.
Because we as humans are of a spiritual origin this part of the therapeutic model should not be overlooked within
the practice of corrective hypnosis. Transpersonal hypnotherapy embraces the clinical qualities of hypnosis, but extends
treatment to the client’s higher dimensional realities for corrective interventions, when it is considered to be appropriate
for the client’s benefit.
By accessing these higher dimensional realities the super-consciousness (spirit) of the client is then incorporated
into the restorative process more extensively. Altered states of consciousness is the avenue, and Transpersonal
Hypnotherapy is the vehicle that is used to explore the fascinating realm of the superconscious mind. It is a journey we
go on which accesses information beyond the five senses, which transcends the body and ego boundaries as we examine
our beliefs, our strengths, and our weaknesses in an attempt to understand our higher self and bring about self-
actualization and the healing we need. It encompasses a number of approaches that honor the spirituality of the client
and goes beyond the individual to consider the deep connections between human beings and our capacity to transcend the
limitations of a three dimensional consciousness.
Recognizing the whole person on a physical, emotional, mental, intuitive and spiritual level, there is an emphasis
on the innate spiritual resources within each individual, along with the belief that the guidance of the superconscious
mind will prevail within the corrective relationship, bringing into accord those insights and experiences that lead to the
client’s highest good.
This way of working has a history as long as hypnosis itself with time tested spiritual traditions of enlightenment
and liberation. It will help relate experiences within a person’s life as a meaningful part of personal development in
which an individual can have the opportunity to grow into a greater sense of who they truly are.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, or Tapping)-
Brien's individual EFT sessions use EFT and a blend of the Sedona method techniques to help move through blocked
issues in your life to help you to move through any issues such as weight loss, smoking cessation, anxiety, depression,
trauma, ptsd, fears, anger, and past trauma. It can also help you to manifest things in your life by clearing blocks
whether spiritual or emotional so that you can help reach your goals.
What is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or tapping)?
The Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, is the psychological acupressure technique I routinely use in my
practice and most highly recommend to optimize your emotional health. Although it is still often overlooked,
emotional health is absolutely essential to your physical health and healing - no matter how devoted you are to the
proper diet and lifestyle, you will not achieve your body's ideal healing and preventative powers if emotional
barriers stand in your way.
EFT is very easy to learn, and will help you:
- Remove Negative Emotions
- Reduce Food Cravings
- Reduce or Eliminate Pain
- Implement Positive Goals
EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to
treat physical and emotional ailments for over five thousand years, but without the invasiveness of needles.
Instead, simple tapping with the fingertips is used to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head
and chest while you think about your specific problem - whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc.
and voice positive affirmations.
This combination of tapping the energy meridians and voicing positive affirmation works to clear the "short-circuit"
the emotional block -- from your body's bioenergy system, thus restoring your mind and body's balance, which is
essential for optimal health and the healing of physical disease.
Some people are initially wary of these principles that EFT is based on - the electromagnetic energy that flows
through the body and regulates our health is only recently becoming recognized in the West. Others are initially
taken aback by (and sometimes amused by) the EFT tapping and affirmation methodology.
Life coaching/ Spiritual counseling-
Brien's life coaching sessions are a combination of counseling, energy work (reiki and karuna reiki), EFT, Sedona
method, hypnotherapy, qi gong, tarot, visualizations and meditations to help with any physical, emotional or spiritual
malady affecting your life.
What is a life coach?
A life coach is someone who aims to help and empower others to make, meet and exceed personal and professional
goals - including excelling in the workplace, becoming happy and fulfilled in the home, exploring the self and the world,
and achieving ambitions.
By harnessing specialist techniques based on core psychological principals and natural intuition, life coaches
provide clients with the tools to confidently face difficult situations, push past emotional barriers and eventually view
life with fresh, hopeful and enlightened eyes.
Just as sports coaching enables athletes to hone themselves into the fastest, strongest, most tactical competitors
in their disciplines, life coaching helps people from all professional and personal backgrounds improve their strengths
and build upon their weaknesses to make the most of their lives.
A life coach will never try to be an 'agony aunt' - he or she will never attempt to dish out advice because, firstly -
giving advice is just a way of imposing a personal view of the world onto another person (who may or may not share the
same view) and, secondly - it is not a life coach's job to become personally involved in a client's life. Life coaching is
about objectivity, structure and empowerment, not instruction or indoctrination.
At the heart of it all lies the idea that clients must be given the power to help themselves. Offering advice,
opinions and judgements would undermine some of the basic principles behind life coaching, which include:
A) Subjectivity: we all have different perspectives of the world - no one perspective is 'right' or 'wrong', but some
perspectives are restrictive and can stop a person becoming who they want to be.
B) Empowerment: it is within everyone's capability to adjust the limits of their own perspective. With the help of life
coaching, anyone can learn to open their mind if they wish.
C) Guidance: there is a difference between an instructor and a guide. An instructor shows a person exactly what to do,
whereas a guide provides the tools and support a person needs to do something for themselves. A life coach is a guide,
not an instructor.
The term 'coaching' itself comes from the Anglo-Saxon word for 'carriage', which is a means of transporting
something from one place to another. A life coach therefore, is an individual who guides another individual from where
they are in life, to where they want to be in life.
